Teacher's Association

The SCD Teacher's Association was created in order to continually build the Denver Salsa scene, to provide an arena for teachers to grow professionally together and to create a "Salsa Syllabus" in order to provide a structured and consistent learning experience for the students.

 

Bridget EllisBridget Ellis
Bridget has been dancing, teaching and performing for the last 10 years in American Smooth, Latin and social Country Western, but has focused specifically on "Social Street" Salsa and social Latin dancing over the past 5 years.  She enjoys getting her students ready for anything; social dancing, performance and competition!  Bridget is an active competitor and her most recent accomplishments include winning the 2006 Carnaval de Rumba Championship and the 2007 Colorado State Championship.

Renee and MauricioRenee & Mauricio Leon
Renee has been dancing and teaching salsa for 9 years and performs with husband and dance partner, Mauricio Leon. Through her years of working with Up With People, Renee’ has worked intimately with a variety of international cultural dance forms, and is known for incorporating elements of various dance styles into her Salsa


Mauricio Leon is a native of El Salvador and began dancing Salsa in Los Angeles, CA 17 years ago. He has 7 years of teaching Salsa, performance, and choreography experience. Both are exceptional choreographers and teachers sought out locally for Salsa Performance and Competition routines, Wedding dances, Musicals, Quinsiñeras and much more.

Roberta FarleyRoberta Farley
Roberta Farley (Shut Up & Dance Productions) specializes in Argentine Tango, Salsa & Swing. She is a second-generation dancer with over 41 years of dance experience, Roberta has created a teaching technique that enables students to progress quickly and have fun, especially students who think they have two left feet! Roberta has been the resident instructor at the Salsa club La Rumba for the last 11 years. Shut Up & Dance is located in Cherry Creek, available for privates lessons, group classes and dance entertainment. Wedding packages available.

RafaelRafael Ayure
Rafael, aka "Rafael Salsero," is from Colombia and started dancing Colombian Folklore and Ethno Modern dance at the age of 16. Rafael continued his classical training until he moved to the United States in 1994.  After arriving in the U.S. Rafael started teaching; bringing his unique Colombian dance style to the Colorado scene. Since then Rafael has performed at major international Salsa Congresses, hosted numerous dance events for corporations, founded the performance team "Salsa Caliente" and coached some of the state's best couples.  Rafael is constantly trying to promote and improve the Salsa scene in Colorado.

Eulanda SheadEulanda Shead
2006 International Salsa Champion Eulanda Shead, is a classically trained dancer who has studied dance at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Cleo Parker Robinson, Broadway Dance Center, and throughout the U.K. She specializes in fusing classical, folkloric and contemporary dance forms within her unique style of salsa.  Her choreography has been nominated for top awards at the American College Dance Festival, Hotlanta Salsa Congress, Colorado Salsa Open, Hawaiian International Dance Festival, and the International Hustle and Salsa Championship.  Eulanda specializes in Afro-Salsa, and is proud to launch Unleashed Dance Studios!

2006 International Salsa Dance Champion, A.J. Washington is an accomplished dancer and musician who has been dancing for over nine years. Born in NY, his dancing has been described as "exciting, smooth, sophisticated, and full of rhythm." A.J. has studied with many masters of Salsa and Latin dance. His unique style is a fusion of his studies in Hip-hop, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, NY and L.A. style Salsa.

Mercy Gonzales specializes in Salsa Instruction and is an experienced dancer with over 34 years of experience.  She has been dancing and performing since age five and has studied tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, and a wide variety of Latin dances. Mercy is a former member of “Salsa Caliente” and performed in the L.A. Salsa Congress in 2001 and 2002.
