SCD was invited to attend the NYISC Aug 31 – Sept 3, 2017. What an amazing event. If you are ever in the NYC are over Labor Day weekend we would high recommend this fun congress.
The events this year were held at the Marriott Marquis in the heart of Times Square. A great location for all NYC activities—close to all the theaters, great music venues and wonderful restaurants. The ballroom for the main NYISC events was spacious and functional. The classes and workshops were all top notch and the performances and entertainment were exceptional.
The event opened on Thursday and featured an evening showcase featuring over 20 groups, couples and teams. Following the showcase there was social dancing in the huge ballroom and a special Bachata room—the fun continued until 3 am.
On Friday workshops and boot camps ran throughout the day and early evening. There was some fun Salsa dancing right in Times Square in the afternoon and then an evening showcase followed by dancing and a live concert by Avenida B Salsa Dura. The fun continued until wee hours of the morning.
Saturday was the big day at the Congress. Dance classes and workshops all day and Salsa in Times Square again in the afternoon. There was an evening performance showcase followed by a live concert with JohnnyRay “Salsa Con Clase”. There were separate rooms for Bachata and Kizomba.
Final day of the event included more dancing in Times Square, a youth performance showcase, a performance showcase and social dancing followed by a live concert with Bobby Valentin y Su Orquesta.
There are a variety of activities at area night clubs, dance venues and at dance studios prior to the event and many wonderful activities to do after. Highly recommend chucking out the New York International Congress when you can!
And thank you NYISC for the full congress passes.
